The Spaniard's future has been one of the key unknowns in the 2027 driver market. Marca suggests he has agreed to a one-year extension with Williams. This new deal is also set to include a salary increase for Sainz, who currently earns €13 million annually.

Sainz joined the Grove-based team at the start of 2025 after losing his seat at Ferrari. In his debut season with the British outfit, Sainz secured two podium finishes, placing third in Azerbaijan and Qatar, despite Williams having shifted its primary focus to the entirely new regulations introduced for the 2026 season.

However, Williams lost ground at the beginning of the new era, a development that displeased both Sainz and his teammate Alex Albon. Consequently, Sainz's representatives initiated discussions with rival teams, but it appears no viable alternative for the 2027 season was found, leading to the Spaniard's decision to remain with Williams for at least another year. Albon's future at Williams, at this stage, officially remains uncertain.
