He missed most of the second half of the season and was also not in the Super Eagles squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier tie against South Africa which they lost 2-0.

The 31-year-old has revealed that he is nearing a comeback with a post on Instagram.

Ikeme, who made 33 appearances for the Championship side last season has been out of action since March.

“Back soon,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself in the gym.

The Wolverhampton goalkeeper is working towards regaining fitness before the beginning of the new season which will also put him in contention for the Super Eagles 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon in Late August and early September.

He was missed in the Super Eagles 2-0 loss to South Africa on Saturday, June 10.

Ikeme made over 30 appearances for Wolverhampton last season and has nine caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
