The Bayern Munich left-back sustained a hamstring injury in early May during the Champions League semi-final clash against PSG. Throughout the group stage of the tournament, he remained on the substitutes' bench for every match but did not play a single minute.
In the Round of 16 against South Africa, he came on for the final 15 minutes. Many expected him to feature in the quarter-final against Morocco, but he ultimately did not participate in the match, reportedly at his own request. Canada lost 3-0 and exited the tournament.
Davies addressed fans via an Instagram post. "This tournament has personally been one of the toughest challenges of my career. After my hamstring injury, I felt I couldn't perform at my best. I couldn't give my team everything when the country needed it most. It hurts," expressed the 25-year-old Davies.
He has already endured several lengthy absences, including a multi-month layoff last year due to a serious knee injury. "However, I still don't believe in excuses. Football is full of setbacks, and how you react to them defines you. This disappointment only motivates me," Davies stated.
Canada's coach, Jesse Marsch, has confirmed that Davies will rejoin Bayern after a short break to begin pre-season training with the team. The German champions' first competitive match will be the German Supercup against Borussia Dortmund on August 22, as reported by DPA.
