Bundesliga President on Infantino: He Has to Go

Bundesliga President Hans-Joachim Watzke has echoed German Football Association (DFB) leader Bernd Neuendorf's call for FIFA head Gianni Infantino to resign. Watzke cited three specific reasons: the award given to former US President Donald Trump, the annulment of Florian Balogun's suspension, and the now-withdrawn plans to sell a stake in the World Cups.

"He has to go. No ifs, ands, or buts," Watzke stated, as quoted by DPA. "Nobody knew about it (the idea of selling a stake in the World Cups). His vice-presidents at FIFA didn't know, the FIFA Council didn't know either. The World Cups would have been sliced up like bread. Why do they need investors? They don't need them at all. FIFA is sitting on a mountain of money and belongs to the national federations," he added.

After this plan became public, Infantino faced countless criticisms, triggering the biggest crisis within FIFA under his leadership. However, the Swiss national will be among the candidates for the 2027 presidential elections, and currently, he faces the strongest opposition from UEFA, on whose Executive Committee Watzke serves.

DFB President Neuendorf stated in an RTL interview earlier this week that "it is important for Infantino's entire system to be dismantled."
