The Portuguese playmaker registered his 20th assist of the league campaign when he set up Bryan Mbeumo for United’s third goal in an entertaining encounter on Sunday.

With the assist, Fernandes joined an elite group of Premier League legends, matching the long-standing record jointly held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

The victory also confirmed a third-place finish for Manchester United, wrapping up another strong league performance under interim manager Michael Carrick.

United started brightly at Old Trafford and took the lead through Luke Shaw, whose effort gave the home supporters an early advantage.

Nottingham Forest responded well and found an equaliser through Brazilian defender Morato, who powered home a header to silence the crowd briefly.

However, United quickly regained control as Matheus Cunha restored the hosts’ lead before Fernandes delivered another moment of quality.

The United captain produced a perfectly weighted pass to release Mbeumo, who calmly finished to make it 3-1 and effectively seal the points for the Red Devils.

Forest managed to reduce the deficit late on through Morgan Gibbs-White, but the visitors could not complete a comeback.
