British Member of Parliament Layla Moran has proposed that England national team striker Harry Kane be knighted for his contributions to football, according to the Liberal Democrats' party website.

At the World Cup in North America, the 32-year-old forward has scored five goals in four matches. In the Round of 32 clash against DR Congo (2-1), Kane netted two goals, surpassing Brazilian legend Pelé in the all-time World Cup scoring charts. The English striker now boasts 13 goals in World Cup tournaments.

“Harry Kane has shown inspiring leadership and strength of character both on and off the pitch, upholding the values that make our country so great,” Moran stated in her proposal.

In the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, England will face co-hosts Mexico. The two teams are set to play on the night of July 6th (Monday) at 3:00 AM Bulgarian time. This match, along with all 104 games of the 2026 World Cup, can be watched live on bnt.sportal.bg.
