Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has commented on the early-season form of Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman at Italian Serie A side Atalanta.

Lookman signed for Atalanta during the summer transfer window, agreeing to a five-year deal to move from German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in a deal worth €9m.

Before joining Atalanta, Lookman made his mark at Leicester City while on loan at the English Premier League club during the 2021/22 season, bagging eight (8) goals and six (6) assists in all competitions.

Lookman has picked up from where he stopped as the Super Eagles forward has hit the ground running with four (4) goals and one (1) assist in just 10 matches for Atalanta so far.

Speaking on Lookman's form for Atalanta, Leicester City manager Rodgers revealed that he is happy for the 24-year-old forward and he has sent his congratulations to him.

Rodgers told newsmen as reported by Tribal Football: "I've been in contact with him and congratulated him. He's done fantastic. He's performed very well, he's enjoying his time there and I'm delighted for him.

“He was fantastic here, he scored goals, created goals, he worked very hard, all the things you'd want from a young winger."

Speaking on the possibility of signing Lookman permanently, Rodgers stated that the Foxes could not guarantee a permanent deal for the Nigeria international as they could only sanction another loan deal.

I'm really happy for him because he's a great guy and very devoted to his football. He's started very well with Atalanta. We could never guarantee that," Rodgers explained.

"I think if we were getting in anyone it was only on loan, and then it didn't happen. Unfortunately it was a deal we couldn't do."

Leicester City signed only one new player during the 2022 summer transfer window, bringing in Belgian centre-back Wout Faes for €17m from French side Reims.
