This is how the Internet reacted when they found out that Bob Dylan was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature.

The 75-year-old rock legend won the prize for literature in Stockholm today “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”

Although it unclear why Dylan was chosen ahead of authors and writers like Japanese Haruki Murakami and Kenyan Ngugi wa Thiong’o but the Internet is having none of it:

Others think he deserved it:

Sadly, it is not only the Internet that thinks this way.

According to The Guardian UK, the choice of Dylan caused disagreement amongst the judging panel. The prize was expected to be announced last week, in the same week as the science medals, and the Academy’s Per Wästberg said the different date was a matter of logistics.

But Bjorn Wiman, cultural pages editor at Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter, told the South China Morning Post that “if you ask me, it’s absolutely not a ‘calendar’ issue. This is a sign there’s a disagreement in the process to select a winner.”

Whether or not we think he deserves the award, one thing is clear, Bob Dylan's music and lyrics explore unfathomable depths of the human condition, and that alone is deserving of a literary prize.

But at the end of the day, we understand the judges of the Nobel Prize:
