The close relationship between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and US President Donald Trump is detrimental to football, according to former FIFA President Sepp Blatter. Blatter expressed this opinion on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

The 90-year-old Swiss made these comments shortly after a report in The Times suggested FIFA is preparing to sell stakes in the World Cup to major investors. According to the information, Infantino plans to execute this deal with businessmen close to Trump, which would personally net him tens of millions of dollars.

"The close relationship between the head of FIFA and the US President has reached a financial dimension that is deeply damaging to football. No one has the right to sell our game," Blatter wrote.

The World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, which concluded a few days ago, featured 48 teams for the first time. During the tournament, Infantino stated that a further expansion of teams is possible, potentially reaching 64 in the future.
