Following messages of support for Cristiano Ronaldo and criticism aimed at Jorge Jesus in Lisbon on Friday, the billboards have now surfaced in Porto on Saturday. The billboard was installed at the Francos junction roundabout, just a day before Portugal take on Norway at the Estádio do Dragão in the Nations League group stage.
Fernando Maia, the man behind the billboards, had already revealed to Rádio Observador on Friday that he intended to put up displays in Porto. True to his word, the billboard in the northern city features a slight modification, as Maia had hinted. He chose to remove the reference to Jorge Jesus's "inflated ego," while continuing to criticize the national team manager over his handling of the Cristiano Ronaldo situation.
"I am putting up these billboards as an individual; it has nothing to do with any company, and I am funding them myself. The only thing that could perhaps be questionable is the phrase about the inflated ego. I also want to make another matter very clear: I don't know Ronaldo, nor do I know anyone from his team. I know myself, and I have something called gratitude—I don't believe in casting aside people who have been, and continue to be, valuable to Portugal," Maia stated on Friday.
