Belgian Nationals Groove to YMCA in New Trump Mockery

The Belgian national team once again took a jab at US President Donald Trump following their decisive 4-1 victory over the Americans in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. The match was overshadowed by intense political tension stemming from the American president's intervention in the overturned red card for US striker Folarin Balogun.

On the pitch, however, the "Red Devils" clearly outplayed one of the co-hosts, and after scoring their fourth goal, they mimicked Trump's characteristic dance.

The playful jab at the 47th American president continued in the locker room after the match. There, the Belgian national team kept grooving to the sounds of the popular 1978 Village People hit, "YMCA." The song has become iconic for Donald Trump and the so-called MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement. The politician almost always plays the song at his rallies.

The Belgian players recreated Trump's well-known fist-pumping dance, imitating him and thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Trump first used the song at political events in 2018, before making it a signature closing track at his campaign rallies. His distinctive dance became one of the most recognizable visual trademarks of both his 2020 and 2024 presidential campaigns.

Social media quickly amplified the celebrations, and Belgium's emphatic victory spawned a flurry of internet jokes. Alongside the post "Cancel this," the official Belgian team account quipped, "It's called FOOTBALL," striking through the word "soccer." Memes featuring Trump, Brussels' Manneken Pis statue, and Lukaku's celebration after Belgium's fourth goal went viral within hours of the final whistle.
