Barcelona Lacks Control Over Hansi Flick; His Decision Could Impact Team Star

The reigning La Liga champions find themselves in an unusual predicament. Barcelona is currently awaiting a decision from coach Hansi Flick, who holds his future entirely in his own hands. Amidst recent negotiations, the question of Robert Lewandowski's future has also emerged, with his agent meeting club representatives with a specific agenda.

Pini Zahavi, agent for both the Polish striker and the German coach, recently met with Barcelona's sporting director Deco, president Joan Laporta, and vice-president Rafa Yuste. The primary objective was to finalize Hansi Flick's contract details and discuss Robert Lewandowski's future.

The situation is complicated by Flick's challenging period following a recent Champions League exit. Despite this, the Catalan club has a clear plan: they aim to extend his contract by one year with an option for an additional season, contingent on achieving specific results. However, sources close to the club emphasize that committing him for the entirety of the current president's term, until 2031, is highly improbable.

"Flick has his own timetable and will decide his future when he deems it appropriate, not when his agent or the club tells him to. Patience is key," anonymous Barcelona representatives told Mundo Deportivo.

Deco plays a crucial role in these complex negotiations, maintaining a strong relationship with Flick. Continuing with the 61-year-old coach could provide stability to the coaching staff for at least part of the current administration's tenure. However, Flick's earlier statement casts doubt on this: "This will be my last club and my last job," Hansi Flick stated some time ago.

While attention is currently focused on the experienced coach's future, discussions with Pini Zahavi also touched upon Robert Lewandowski. Flick's decision will undoubtedly influence the team's development and collaboration with key players, including the Polish goalscorer. This uncertainty further raises questions about the stability of Barcelona's entire sporting project.
