Governor Adeleke's son says he doesn't want his father to be president despite "good heart"

Davido's cousin, singer Adebayo Adeleke, popularly known as B-Red, has said he doesn't want his father, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, to become President of Nigeria, despite believing he would lead the country well.

The remarks come from a 2023 interview on the Echoroom podcast that resurfaced on social media this week, days after Adeleke secured a second term as governor in the August 15 election, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.

In the clip, B-Red was asked whether his father could one day become president. He said people had raised the idea, but that he personally didn't want the pressure that would come with it. He described his father as someone with "such a good heart," and said Nigeria "go change" in every aspect if he became president, insisting his father would focus on meeting people's needs rather than personal gain.

B-Red also pushed back on the idea that his family entered politics for financial reasons. He said the Adelekes have been wealthy for a long time, long before politics became part of the family's story, and that money was never the motivation for his father's or other relatives' involvement in government.

He also spoke about his father's standing within the family long before he held public office, saying relatives had referred to him as "the president of the family" for over a decade, even before he became governor.

The Adeleke family has a long political history in Osun State. Ademola Adeleke's late brother, Isiaka Adeleke, previously served as governor and senator, and Ademola himself was a senator representing Osun West before becoming governor in 2022.

The same podcast episode also touched on B-Red's music career. He spoke about how he, Davido and their cousin Sina Rambo struggled early on to break into the industry, despite coming from a wealthy family, after the three started out together as a group in Atlanta before relocating to Nigeria to pursue music professionally.

B-Red, born in Atlanta, signed to Davido's HKN Music label in 2013 and has released music independently in the years since, including his 2020 album The Jordan Album, which featured a guest appearance from his father.
