Since the entry of streaming companies into the Nigerian market, it has become normal for new movies or series released by streaming companies to top the trending topics on weekends. But the weekend of 24 through 26 February was an exception. It was the weekend of the Nigerian presidential election that analysts had described as ‘too close to call’ because of heightened youth participation, and the trending topic was the presidential election.

Many Nigerians wanted to follow the election coverage on social media and news channels either from their homes or on the go. As a result, AVO TV, a new streaming platform, saw its best viewership numbers to date over the presidential election weekend. The app registered over 2 million views and 75,000 hours of content was streamed by Nigerians looking to keep up-to-date on the election process and results.

AVO TV is a free advert-supported television (FAST) app. That means viewers can

watch over 120 channels including live news on Channels TV, AIT, Bloomberg TV and Aljazeera as well as Nollywood movies and other premium content for free; no payment or subscription is required.

The app continues to grow steadily. In January, AVO TV announced that it had passed 2 million downloads since its launch in 2021. Also, Pixalate's January 2023 CTV FAST Apps Report ranked AVO TV sixth globally for all FAST TV apps on Fire TV based on open programmatic ad transactions.
