Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of the Portuguese giants' captain, Morten Hjulmand, according to Fabrizio Romano and Nicolo Schira.
The "Rojiblancos" will pay 40 million euros for the midfielder, with an additional 5 million in bonuses. The Danish international's contract will span five years, earning him 4 million euros per season plus bonuses. Hjulmand joined Sporting in the summer of 2023, when the club paid Lecce 19.5 million euros for his services. Since then, the 27-year-old has made 141 appearances for the "Lions," scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists, and has won two Portuguese league titles with the club.
The defensive midfielder is the latest addition Atletico has secured in recent weeks. Previously, they finalized transfers for wing-back Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen and winger Kang-In Lee from Paris Saint-Germain. According to "Marca," the club will now look to offload several players, including defender Jose Gimenez, wing-back Matteo Ruggeri, winger Thiago Almada, and forward Alexander Sørloth.
