Atalanta played a 2-2 draw with Udinese away at the Dacia Arena on Sunday with Lookman opening the scoring on the night with his 36th-minute goal.

In celebrating his goal against Udinese, Lookman did his new-found 'binoculars' goal celebration, cupping his eyes with his hands, but he was shown a yellow card for this celebration by referee Daniele Doveri.

In the aftermath of the match, Atalanta manager Gasperini leapt to the defence of Lookman, stating that the Super Eagles forward meant no harm with his celebration.

While there are allegations that Lookman's goal celebration was targeted at the Udinese fans, Gasperini disputed this and stated that the celebration was simply misinterpreted.

"It was misinterpreted, he is not a lad who tries to stir up trouble," Gasperini told DAZN as reported by Football Italia.

There are also possible explanations for Lookman's goal celebration with one being that the 'binoculars' celebration comes from his name which has 'look' in it.

The Nigerian international has not made any comments on the celebration, his yellow card or if he would continue with performing the celebration yet.

Lookman's goal against Udinese was his second league goal in a row after he scored the lone goal in Atalanta's 1-0 win over Fiorentina on October 2.

Atalanta will be in action again on Saturday, October 15 at home when they take on Sassuolo at the Gewiss Stadium by 7:45 p.m. Nigerian time.
