Aston Villa was in need of a new midfield signing following Youri Tielemans' transfer to Manchester United and considering Amadou Onana's severe knee injury sustained during the World Cup, which will sideline him until the end of the year.

Atlético Madrid also showed interest in Gomes, and at one point, the Brazilian was linked with Manchester United.

The 25-year-old Gomes played 103 matches for Wolves, scoring seven goals. The Wanderers acquired him from Flamengo in the summer of 2023 for £15 million.

According to "The Athletic," Aston Villa is also in talks with Bayern Munich for a loan deal for João Palhinha, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham.
