Aston Villa has reportedly reached an agreement with Parma for goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The Birmingham club is set to pay €35 million for the shot-stopper, with €5 million of that figure in performance-related add-ons, should the transfer materialize. The 23-year-old goalkeeper is expected to sign a five-year contract. This development comes on the same day Juventus reportedly submitted an offer for Emiliano Martinez.
Just days prior, Suzuki was on the verge of a move to Paris Saint-Germain, which would have seen him loaned out to Juventus. However, demands from the Japanese international's agent reportedly scuppered that deal.
Suzuki began his professional career with Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds. He then played in Belgium for Sint-Truiden before joining Parma two years ago. The custodian has already earned 28 caps for the Japanese national team and was the starting goalkeeper in all of their matches at the World Cup this past summer.
