Arsenal's Victory Secures Fifth Champions League Spot for English Teams Next Season
Five English clubs are set to compete in the Champions League for the 2026/27 season. This was confirmed after Arsenal's 1-0 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash yesterday evening.
With the expansion of the Champions League finals to 36 teams, two additional spots will be awarded to countries whose clubs have accumulated the most UEFA coefficient points.
Germany and Spain will battle for the other additional spot. Should Real Madrid overcome Bayern Munich in another quarter-final encounter, that quota would go to a La Liga representative. However, it was the Bavarians who secured a 2-1 win in the first leg, leaving everything to play for in the return fixture in Munich next week.
