Antonio Conte open to Manchester United job if Old Trafford hierarchy part ways with Michael Carrick

Antonio Conte is ready to take charge of Manchester United should the club decide to part ways with Michael Carrick, according to The Sun. Pressure on the current manager mounted further following a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid, extending the Red Devils' winless run to five consecutive matches across all competitions. However, the Old Trafford hierarchy are not currently planning a change in the dugout.

Conte, who left Napoli after clinching the Serie A title in 2025, has previously hinted at his desire to manage an illustrious club looking to return to the summit. Speaking to The Athletic, the Italian tactician said: "If you go to a club whose history speaks for itself—a history filled with trophies, league titles, and victories—you can only honor that history in one way: by having the ambition to put the club back where it belongs, if it is not there right now, and fighting for those targets. There are many clubs that have, to some extent, lost sight of their own history. I would love to go to a club like that, dust off that history, and make it shine once again. Clubs where there is pressure, and where you know you're not just going to participate, but to compete."

Carrick is facing intense scrutiny following a poor start to the Premier League campaign. Manchester United currently languish in 13th place with just one win from their opening six league games—their worst start to a season in 40 years. Conte brings proven Premier League pedigree, having won the title with Chelsea in 2017 before securing a top-four finish with Tottenham Hotspur in the 2021/22 season. While the Italian prefers to take over clubs during the summer to allow for full pre-season preparation, reports suggest he would be willing to compromise if constructive discussions take place. Despite mounting speculation, there are currently no indications that United have made the decision to replace Carrick.
