Jordan has parted ways with head coach Jamal Selami following their World Cup exit, announced Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Football Association (JFA). Selami led Jordan to their first-ever World Cup appearance, but the team lost all three of their Group J matches against Austria, Iraq, and Argentina.
"As your journey with the Jordanian national team concludes, we thank you for your efforts and exceptional dedication, as well as your contribution to achieving the historic milestone of our national team qualifying for the World Cup," Prince Ali Hussein posted on social media.
Selami was appointed Jordan's coach in June 2024, but the debutants' disappointing campaign brought an end to his tenure before the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. He guided Jordan to the 2025 Arab Cup final, where they suffered a 3-2 extra-time defeat to his native Morocco. He was granted Jordanian citizenship in recognition of his achievements with the national team.
"Your journey with the team was truly exceptional, and you will always remain a cherished son of Jordan for the dedication, professionalism, and leadership you brought to the team," Prince Ali added.
