Canada's captain, Alphonso Davies, has revealed that the World Cup was one of the toughest periods of his career. The Bayern Munich star was limited to just one appearance in five matches at the tournament, as he battled an injury throughout.

"Due to the hamstring injury I sustained, I wasn't able to perform at the level I know I'm capable of. It pains me that I couldn't help my team and my country when they needed me most," Davies posted on social media. He picked up the injury during the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain in May and was unable to make a full recovery.

"Football is full of setbacks, but disappointments only motivate me to work harder and become even stronger. Playing for Canada on the biggest stage is something I don't take for granted. I'm proud to have worn this badge and been part of this group of players who gave everything for Canada. We will learn from this, grow, and come back stronger," concluded the Canadian captain.
