Airport worker dies gruesomely after getting sucked into plane engine
An airport ground worker was killed in Iran in a horrific accident when he was sucked into the engine of a Boeing 737 that was undergoing routine maintenance at a local airport.
The plane, which had just landed in the Iranian city of Chah Bahar after a flight from Tehran, was being checked by engineers when the gruesome incident occurred.
According to Iranian officials, engineers were carrying out maintenance work on the engines when a ground worker entered a "danger zone" surrounding the engine.
The suction force of the engine was strong enough to sweep the engineer off his feet and into the engine, killing him almost instantly. A safety zone was set up around the engine for maintenance, and engineers were instructed not to enter it.
According to reports, the deceased engineer realised he had forgotten a tool near the engine and was entering the danger zone to retrieve it when he was sucked into it.
This is not the first such situation in recent weeks.
Earlier this year, a ground worker at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport died after being sucked into the engine of an Embraer jet. Authorities said the May 30 incident was a suicide and declined to provide further details out of respect for the deceased's relatives.
