With AFRIMA, all things are possible. That’s the dominant feeling that we took back with us after spending 5 hours at the 2016 edition of the All Africa Music Awards.
The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), in conjunction with the African Union Commission (AUC), is designed to promote the distinct rich African music worldwide, engaging millions of fans by propelling African music to glorious pinnacles beyond the borders of Africa. AFRIMA, the Pan Africa music awards is produced by PRM AFRICA located in Lagos, Nigeria to celebrate the most popular contemporary and traditional music in Africa.
The 2016 edition which held on Sunday, November 6 2015, at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos had stars from the continent come forward and claim top honors.
But you know, where there are stars, there are miracles, and AFRIMA provided them with the perfect platform to make it happen.
Aramide winning the Best Female Artiste, West Africa
In a category, where Seyi Shay, Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade were nominated, few would expect a young and unseeded Aramide to attend the award show. On paper, she’s one of the people without a chance to sniff the award, talk more of to hold it in her hands.
But at AFRIMA, science is laid waste, and the foolishness of man’s intelligence is exposed.
Aramide destroyed Mama Africa, went past the ROC Nation new signee, and as for Seyi Shay, she breezed past.
According to AFRIMA, the best female artiste in West Africa is Aramide, a singer who has no album to her name…that’s straight up turning water into wine.
Wizkid’s ‘Baba Nla’ was produced by a wicked producer
Listening to Wizkid’s ‘Baba Nla’, you get the feeling that you have been blessed by life. The song just seems to move along smoothly, embracing your insides, and reaching through to your soul. Just at the points it hits your soul, you hear the words ‘Wizzy Baby, Baba Nla’, and you join in the chorus, singing with the Starboy, worshipping his lyrics, and being healed of worry and stress in the process.
It’s magical isn’t it?
For AFRIMA, it isn’t just the magical feeling that they enjoy. They also could not believe that such wicked piece of work could be made by anyone that isn’t inherently wicked.
So they kicked out the original producers (Legendury Beatz), and replaced him with a guy many feel should be the producer. It’s a pure miracle that Young John received the nomination for Wizkid’s ‘Baba Nla’. What the Lord has done for him…it shall be permanent.
Eddy Kenzo and Niniola have the best song on the continent
Uganda stand up!!!
Eddy Kenzo who has been pining all his life, waiting for the angel of the lord to visit his career and make him crossover into the commercial waters of Nigeria had his prayers answered by the lord when he collaborated with Niniola, the Nigerian angel who has been hanging around the fringes of a pop culture breakthrough.
But little did he know that the Lord didn’t just bless him, a miracle was waiting in store for him. The miracle was gifted to him via AFRIMA who declared his song, 'Mbilo Mbilo' remix the collaboration of the year. To think that he achieved that feat regardless of the fact that Tiwa Savage and Dr Sid’s ‘If I start to talk’ was glaring at him.
He triumphed miraculously in the presence of his enemies. Amen.
VVIP’s ‘Dogoyaro’ scoops home two awards
While the preferred big names from Ghana were absent, the country was duly represented by the veteran group VVIP, who had a fine time at the event. The group made of Reggie Rockstone, Prodigal, and Zeal, were elevated to pop status with their single ‘Dogoyaro’, which won the Best Video award, and the crew won the Best Group.
This is a lot like dry bones rising again as it is in the good books.
Miraculous, innit?
