AFCON2021: MO showoff for Egypt as Gabaski returns to Pulse of the Day
It was the MO show in Yaounde as the Mohameds came to the party to inspire Egypt to the AFCON2021 semifinals for the fifth time in their last five AFCON tournaments on Sunday.
Mo Salah scored and assisted another goal while Mo Gabaski was in goal for 96 minutes as the Pharaohs joined Senegal in the last four.
Seven goals were scored in the last two matches on Sunday to bring to an exciting and entertaining end the final knockout round.
But who provided the important Pulse of the Day moment? I'm sure you already have an idea.
Step forward Gabaski Abougabal!
The reserve goalkeeper played an important part as Egypt defeated Morocco 2-1 after extra time to become the third team through to the semifinals of the AFCON2021 Sunday evening.
With the match tied at 1-1 after Liverpool star, Salah cancelled out Sofiane Boufal's first-half opener for the Atlas Lions, Gabaski produced an outstanding save in the 80th minute to keep out Nayef Aguerd's excellent header from just seven yards out.
It was the most decisive moment in the game as the game went on to be decided in extra time, which the 33-year-old played for just six minutes before he was substituted due to an injury.
Salah set up Trezeguet for the winner four minutes later and they held on to progress to the semis where they will have their hands full against the dark horse, Burkina Faso.
For Gabaski, this will make it his second consecutive Pulse of the Day entry after he also played a key role in that round of 16 penalty shootout victory over Ivory Coast.
