These two sides have had nine (9) engagements against each other, with Congo having won seven (7), while Equatorial Guinea have won one (1) with one ending in a draw (1).

Equatorial Guinea and Congo had their first encounter way back in 1984 and the latter mesmerized the former by five (5) goals to nothing.

Congo won the first five games against the host nation and they had to wait until the year 2006, when they gained their first victory.

The last game between the two sides was played in 2009, which ended in a two all draw.

This will be the very first time they will be playing each other in the African Cup of Nations.

Ibán Iyanga Travieso commonly known as Randy, who plays for Greek club Iraklis Psachna F.C. as a left winger is the star player for Equatorial Guinea, while the star player for Congo is Thievy Bifouma, who plays for Almeria in Spain on loan from Espanyol.

Equatorial Guinea have played in the AFCON once and that was in 2012, when they co-hosted with Equatorial Guinea, which they reached the quarter finals.

- The Red Devils of Congo will be playing in their third African Cup of Nation. They won the championship in their maiden appearance in 1972, but have failed to appear since 1974, which is a period of 41 years ago.

-Equatorial Guinea won their only opener in the AFCON against Libya, which was the opening game of the 2012 tournament.

-Congo have won 1 and drawn 1 of their two opening games, drawing one all against Morocco in 1972, before beating Mauritius in 1974.
