Adrien Fourmaux's future for the upcoming World Rally Championship (WRC) season remains uncertain following his two-year stint with Hyundai. The French driver has been linked with a switch to Ford, who are gearing up for a factory team return to the WRC in 2028.
The championship regulations are set for a major overhaul in 2027, when the premier class will also open its doors to independent privateer outfits without direct manufacturer ties.
"When you don't have a confirmed contract for next season, you have to weigh up every possible project," Fourmaux told DirtFish. "I am fully open to all proposals and will take the time needed to make the best decision."
Among the active teams, only Toyota will field a Rally1 car tailored to the technical requirements for next season. Meanwhile, M-Sport is working on a dedicated upgrade package to boost performance for its Rally2 challenger, while details regarding any similar programme from Hyundai remain unconfirmed.
"My objective is to get back into a Rally1 car as quickly as possible," Fourmaux explained. "That means if the right opportunity is there, I am willing to spend a year in a slower car, but my priority is returning to top-tier machinery."
