Matchday 4 of the 2018/2019
These are five things we learnt from the game.
1. PSG still without the statement win
undefined leaving them still without a statement win in the Champions League. The Champions League title is now the holy grail for French giants who splash huge sums to get Neymar and Kylian Mbappe last season but the failures of these star men to spark on big Champions League night remains a worry.
Neymar and Mbappe have failed to step up on the big stage so far this season and with Liverpool next to come, it’s time they justify their huge transfer fees.
2. Ancelotti keeping Napoli afloat
When Carlo Ancelotti took over Napoli after his let-down at Bayern Munich, the appointment was met with outright optimism especially after the good works of Maurizio Sarri.
But Ancelotti has managed to keep Napoli buoyed after a couple of changes. Their 1-1 home draw against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday meant they are now unbeaten after two games against the French Champions.
After four games, they are top of Group C that also has Liverpool and are in good shape to qualify out of the group.
3. Inter faring well
Since their historic Champions League title win in 2010, Inter Milan had only been to the European club competition just twice before this season and on their return, they are faring just well.
They held Barcelona to a 1-1 draw at home on Tuesday, a result that shows obvious progress from the recent lightweight ways.
They are still no way near the levels of Barcelona who were without b, but the Giants are on their way up.
4. Henry can’t figure it out
Arsenal legend saw his Monaco side receiving a 4-0 bashing from visiting Club Brugge as he keeps trying to figure the Achilles heel of his team.
Henry took over following the sacking of Leonardo Jardim with Monaco in the Ligue 1 relegation places. Five games later and Henry has still hasn’t figured it out with Monaco who were thumped 0-4 by Club Brugge.
5. Buffon still has it
After about 17 years, Gianluigi Buffon left Juventus and joined Champions League dreamers Paris Saint-Germain. At the age of 40, Buffon wasn't getting any younger or better and Juventus had to move on but the Italian legend wasn’t done with top-flight football.
On Tuesday, Buffon showed that he still had with a couple of saves in Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-1 draw away at Napoli.
While Paris Saint-Germain might be disappointed in not getting a win but in hindsight, they were lucky to leave the Stadio San Paolo with a point and that was all thanks to Buffon.
