3 men arraigned in Ogun for allegedly smoking India Hemp

The three men were accused of conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by smoking Indian Hemp.

On Thursday, July 11, 2019, three men, Destiny, 27; Jamiu, 19, and Shittu, 42, were arraigned before Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly smoking India hemp.

The accused persons, whose addresses were not provided are facing two count charges of conspiracy and breach of peace.

According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, the defendants and others who are still at large committed the crime on June 29, at Alaka area, Ota in Ogun State.

Mustapha added that the accused persons and their accomplices conducted themselves in a way that was likely to cause a breach of peace by smoking India Hemp in the community, adding that the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi granted them bail of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Before adjourning the case until July 22, Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government.
