Flying Eagles trash Congo, through to the FIFA World Cup

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria yesterday, Wednesday, March 11 trashed their Congolese counterparts by four goals to one to advance to the semi-finals of the 2015 African U-20 Championship and also go through to the FIFA youth World Cup.

After Nigeria's first goal, Flying Eagles keeper Joshua Enaholo was red-carded for a foul on a Congo forward.

Taiwo Awoniyi produced a Man-of-the-Match performance scoring once and winning two penalties for his team.

Ifeanyi Matthew latched unto Bernard Bulbwa’s pass and dispatched the ball after a great close control in the 5th minute of the game for Nigeria’s first goal of the evening.

In the 33rd minute of the game, Musa Mohammed scored from the spot after Taiwo Awoniyi  was brought down in the 18-year-area Congo defender, Miguel Itoua Mamic. Musa Mohammed scores from the spot. Nigeria 2-0 Congo.

Taiwo Awoniyi won Nigeria another penalty as he is brought down by Cosme Atoni Mavoungou in the 55th minute. Musa Mohammed scores from the spot to put Nigeria three goals up.

The Congolese fought back with a goal by Mbou who smashed home Faria Ondongo’s cross in the 65th minute.

Taiwo Awoniyi scored Nigeria’s fourth goal in the 86th minute of the game. The striker lofts the ball over the head of Cosme Atoni, then controls brilliantly with his chest, before unleashing a stupendous thunderous finish.

Manu Garba’s team now have six points from the two games thus far-they defeated host Senegal in their first match.

The Flying Eagles will play Cote d’ Ivoire in their last Group A game on Saturday.
