This Thursday morning, PSP (Public Security Police) arrested 10 individuals linked to the Benfica fan group, No Name Boys. They are suspected of involvement in the assaults that occurred before the futsal derby between Sporting and Benfica on February 19th, at the João Rocha Pavilion.
The operation, dubbed Kickoff, commenced at 7:00 AM across the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. It included the execution of 11 home search warrants as part of an inquiry led by the 11th Section of the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) of Lisbon.
In a statement, the PSP clarified that the detainees are suspected of "potential involvement in crimes related to sports violence." The investigation focuses on "assaults committed before the futsal match between Sporting Clube de Portugal and Sport Lisboa e Benfica on February 19th of this year."
During the searches, police seized "various material evidence," which will now be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
It's worth noting that on the day of the match itself, the PSP had already arrested 124 people following a brawl between supporters of the two clubs in the vicinity of Estádio José Alvalade, moments before the futsal derby.
