Nigerians are puzzled over
Moses on Wednesday, August 15 announced his retirement from the national team to focus on his club career and young family.
After his announcement, Nigerians took to Twitter to express their shock at the decision of the Chelseastar to quit the Super Eagles.
“Strange decision by Victor Moses to retire from international football.There is a lot excitement & promise around this set of Eagles & they could go on to do great thin.But he has a family now & the opportunity cost of those international breaks is family time.We will miss him,” Biola Kazeem said on Twitter.
“I cant even wrap my head around Victor Moses retiring from international football. He is just 27 & Nigerian Football is getting better. Sad to hear but i respect his decision. All the best Moses,” another Twitter user @ani_nomso wrote.
“There is no doubt Nigeria/Nigerians will miss Victor Moses but it's sad that we didn't prepare for this kind of exit. At 28, Moses shouldn't be quiting international football but we have to respect is decision. One of the best on his day. Good luck Moses,” @PoojaMedia tweeted.
“Why is Victor Moses retiring at at time Nigerians needs him the most. Our football team has improved and we're getting better at each tournament. He is just 27… Ronaldo is 33 but still playing international football. Victor Moses is a young talent and I'm disappointed,” a Twitter user @Okom_UGabriel wrote.
Unpatriotic?
All through his stint with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Moses has always had to deal with accusations of not being patriotic and committed to the national team.
His critics were out in full force on Twitter following his announcement.
“Victor Moses has always played for Nigeria like he's doing us a favour, picks the qualifying games to play in and all. Don't know how many minutes he will be getting this season at Chelsea. Good luck to him,” @UgoCerenzo wrote on Twitter.
“Victor Moses is not a legend as far as I'm concern, he should av learn from Mikel who has played all the cadre of national team,” a Twitter user with the handle @Legzy111 wrote.
“So Victor Moses stylishly retires from Afcon qualifiers. We are watching and observing at the same time,” @Superlative89 wrote.
