The Super Falcons are the defending champions of the tournament after their heroics at the 2016 edition in Cameroon.

The team, however, started their title defence on a losing note after substitute Thembi Kgatlana scored in the 85th minute to give South Africa a 1-0 win over Nigeria.

It was the first time the Super Falcons will begin their campaign at the continental tournament.

Speaking at the Press conference organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dennerby said that his team will correct the mistakes they made against South Africa in their next game.

He said, “I remain optimistic, the aim has not changed and we are definitely securing a ticket to the World Cup in France.

“We hope to go all the way to the final in this tournament again, and of course we need to win against Zambia.”

The Super Falcons are yet to register a point in the group and face an uphill task to qualify from the group.
