South African consulate reopens in Lagos

The consulate had been closed for two days this week as officials felt threatened.

The South African consulate in Lagos which had been closed as a safety measure owing to the xenophobic attacks in that country has now been reopened.

In a statement, South Africa’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lulu Mnguni, said:

“Well they see that something has been done, obviously it takes time for them to be convinced. Let’s just push on and get things sorted out and normalised and I’m sure thy will come to accept.”

No fewer than 7 people have been killed in the recent attacks on foreigners in Durban and Johannesbourg.

Meanwhile 8 Nigerians have expressed interest in returning back home even as the Nigerian Consul to South-Africa, Uche Ajulu-Okeke said Nigerians lost property worth N21 million to the attacks.
