Mr Yemi Odutola, the Communications Manager, W.TEC in a statement in Lagos said that the centre’s academy introduced a Coding Club to give children opportunity with technology.

According to him, the technology based programme seeks to provide children with the opportunity to create and use technology in an amazing way.

“The aim of the club is to inspire kids to get excited and be drawn to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at their early age and to groom them to become technology solution providers in the nearest future."

“The first quarter of the training was from January till March with 11 for students participating in the programme throughout the term."

“The pupils were taught coding using ScratchJr, an introductory programming language that enables young children to create their own interactive stories and games through coding."

“In using ScratchJr, children snapped together graphical programming blocks to make characters move, jump, dance, and sing."

“Children can also modify characters in the paint editor, add their own voices and sounds, even insert photos of themselves and then use the programming blocks to make their characters come to life,” he said.

Odutola said that the pupils showed high level of interest in the programme as they consistently paid rapt attention and further conducted impressive practical sessions.
