Social network announces new audio-only live streaming feature

The social network says it will be testing out the feature with media companies and publishing houses like the BBC.

Facebook Live Audio

Facebook has announced, via a blog post, that it will be launching Live Audio very soon.

Facebook Live, the social network's video live stream feature, was launched in April 2016 and the upcoming Live Audio feature seems to be an audio version of that. Something like an online radio.

With Facebook Live Audio, broadcasting and live podcasting will definitely take new forms. Facebook currently has 1.7 billion potential users for the soon-to-be-launched feature.

"From interviews to book readings, we’re excited about the layer of interactivity that Live Audio brings to both the broadcaster and listener. Just as with a live video on Facebook, listeners can discover live audio content in News Feed, ask questions and leave reactions in real time during the broadcast, and easily share with their friends," says Facebook in a blog post.

The social network says it will be testing out the feature with media companies and publishing houses like the BBC and it will be available for full release next year.

Live Audio will join a growing list of new features that Facebook has been incorporating into its platform. Some of them include Facebook Live, Facebook 360, and the most recent Slideshow, a feature that lets you merge music and pictures in a slideshow for your feed.

Pulse Tech will keep you posted on the progress of Facebook's Live Audio and let you know once it becomes available in Nigeria.
