Daniel listened as Susan poured her heart out to him, she told him of how lonely she was. Her only child was in boarding school.

Her husband forbade her to work or even socialise, he controlled every aspect of her life and yet he was always away. She got no attention or care from him, all he ever gave her was money. She told Daniel how she found out her husband was gay, and how she had felt nothing when he raped the day he came home.

“I really hate him!” She concluded and wiped the single tear that flowed down her cheek.

“Then why are you still with him, if you have so much hatred towards him,” Daniel asked.

“It is not that simple,” Susan answered. She had just poured her heart out to a complete stranger, it didn’t matter that he fucked her so well, he could walk out the door and sell her story to a newspaper and she could be ruined for life.

But, she trusted Daniel, she didn’t know why, but she did. Monica would call her a fool for trusting a prostitute, but she didn’t care. Besides, there was no way to take back all she had said.

“I don’t want people to call me a slut; people will blame me if I leave him. And I also have to consider my child; I don’t want all this to affect her badly. I don’t want her to hate her father; how will I explain to her that her father is gay? Even my parents won’t believe me. And I also don’t have any money of my own, I won’t be able to give her everything, I can’t give her a life of luxury if I leave my husband.”

Daniel watched her amusingly as she spoke, he didn’t want to interrupt her but from the way she spoke, he could tell that she was afraid, but not for her daughter.

“My husband’s family already hates me and my daughter; they think I have bewitched him because I don’t have a male child.” She kept quiet and stared at him as he stared at her. “Aren’t you going to say anything?” She asked when Daniel said nothing.

“Despite the fact that your husband doesn’t have your time, took your daughter away from you, restricted your talents, doesn’t let you have friends; he also cheats on you and I don’t care whether it is a man or a woman, you are willing to stay with him not because you love him and have forgiven him, but because you don’t want to let go of the lifestyle his money has created for you.”

“I just told you that I have to do this for my daughter, if I have to be miserable I will do it for my daughter.” Susan protested.

“Tell that to someone else and not me. My family members hate me and the job I do but they don’t hate the money that comes from the job. So it is either they accept me or they don’t, I can’t change my life for anybody. I just have to be true to myself.” Daniel said.

“So what are you saying?” Susan asked. She was already irritated that he had not said what she had expected to hear.

“What I am saying is that you are guilty of the same hypocrisy as your husband,” Daniel said and Susan flinched.

“Get out,” Susan commanded; her voice was low and reproachful. What had she expected from someone like him? He would only tell her to take the easy way out because he had been fucking her he believed he had the right to judge her and tell her to leave her husband.

“Get out!” she repeated but this time she yelled and let the tears roll down her cheeks freely.

Daniel stood up slowly, he had hurt her by the things he said; it was out of his place but he had to tell her the truth. As he shut the door behind him, he had no doubt that she would no longer need his services.
