Cleric docked over alleged trespass

The accused is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, forcible entry and breach of peace.

A 41-year-old clergy,

Asomugha, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, forcible entry and breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Francis Igbinosa, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences on Oct. 31, at Lake View Estate, Phase II, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

He said the cleric forcibly entered the property of the complainant, Amb. Christopher Ezene, and unlawfully conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 52, 168 (d), and 412 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Counsel to the accused, Mr E. I. Uwezoke, urged the court to grant the cleric bail on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs ‎Olabisi Kusanu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.

She said that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have his address verified.

The case was adjourned until December 1 for mention.
