Cultists shoot 4 traditionalists in Osun after killing prince
The traditionalists were performing their Oro rites when the cultists started to shoot at them, leaving four of them with life-threatening injuries.
The Oro worshippers were shot while performing their rites in the early hours of the day.
Adesoye, a resident of Ofatedo community where the incident happened, said prior to the shooting of the traditionalists, the cultists had killed Yinusa Okunloye, who was the son of the Olofa of Ofatedo, Oba Abdullahi Okunloye.
Following the gruesome killing of the Prince, the traditionalists resorted to carrying Oro around as a means of cleansing their community.
“The perpetrators are suspected cultists that killed the prince. We were informed that Oro devotees would move round the town for cleansing after the prince was shot dead, and we all stayed indoors.
“In the early hours of the morning on Monday, we heard gunshots in some parts of the town and we were told that four people, said to be Oro devotees, were injured,” the eyewitness stated.
However, as the cultists were attacking the traditionalists, the Osun Police Command got a distress call, after which it deployed its operatives to the community.
On their arrival, the policemen engaged the cultists in an exchange of gunfire, leaving them to run for their lives.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Osun police, Yemisi Opalola said those injured have been rushed to different hospitals for treatment.
Opalola added that more policemen have been deployed to the community to prevent further breaches.
