Senate's relationship with executive can't be defined on Magu's rejection - Senate President speaks

Saraki further reiterated that Magu isn't the first nominee to be rejected by the legislative arm of the government.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki

Dr Saraki made this known in an interview with News Night on Arise TV on Thursday, April 20, 2017.

"When we had a strained relationship during the budget, there was no form of reconciliatory committee, I think this issues are issues that we will weather through and to me, i don't think you can define a relationship between the executive and the legislative based on one nominee, I don't think so, we have played our part. We have played our part and we have left the executive to play their part," Saraki said.

Saraki further reiterated that EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu isn't the first nominee to be rejected by the legislative arm of the government, hence, he sees no reason why his rejection should create a frosty relationship between the two arms of goverment.

When asked about the status of the current relationship between the executive and the senate, Saraki explained that the relationship  is better than it was a year ago.

The Senate President also stressed that there are bound to be one or two reasons for frictions between the two arms of government but that does not generally define the overall status of the relationship.

He also said he and other members of the senate had set out to put Nigeria first in their legislative duties while ensuring transparency in all process.

On Wednesday, April 19, 2017, Saraki had asked the EFCC to reveal the identity of the owner of the monies – $43m, £27,000 and N23m – that it discovered in a flat at a luxury building in Lagos.
