Bagudu Hirse

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hirse, who was on a condolence visit to the family of Malam Mamman Daura in Kaduna, was kidnapped by gunmen on Sunday morning.

The former minister’s whereabouts has yet to be known by security operatives and family members, who confirmed his abduction, as no word was heard from him or his captors as at the time of filling this report.

Mwolwus, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Jos, described Hirse’s abduction as “very sad and unfortunate’’.

“I am appealing to the Federal Government to rise to the challenge and ensure that Hirse is released by his captors with immediate effect giving the fact that he is an elderly man.

“Our elder brother and father is an old man, a gentleman to the core, who does not deserve what has befallen him at this material time,” he said.

Mwolwus, who was Chief of Staff to former Gov. Joshua Dariye of Plateau, decried the rate of kidnapping in the country and called for urgent steps by stakeholders to stem the tide.

According to him, “we can’t continue tolerating this kind of misgiving in our society, which desires to prosper or progress for the good of the people especially the younger generations.’’

“We are appealing to the government, especially the security agencies to do something drastic to ensure that Hirse is released unharmed for him to continue with his laudable contribution to the development of the country,’’ Mwolwus said.
