Shiites condemn continuous detention of their leader

On December 2, 2016, Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the federal high court in Abuja ordered that the Shiite leader be released from detention.

The group also accused President Buhari’s administration of acting like it is above the law.

On December 2, 2016, Justice Gabriel Kolawoleof the federal high court in Abuja ordered the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Director of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), Lawal Daura, to release El Zakzaky.

According to Daily Post, the group’s spokesman, Abdulhamid Bello, who led protesters to the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, in Abuja, said the government is not telling Nigerians the truth.

Bello said “At the end of their two days murderous mission, they left behind corpses of the young, old and able-bodied men and women in their wake, apart from the wanton destruction of properties worth several hundred millions of naira.

“The government of Buhari is behaving in contempt of the rule of law, telling all and sundry that it is above the law.”

He also said that the group will continue its protests till their leader is released.

Genesis of El-Zakzaky’s arrest

The Shiite leader, El-Zakzaky’s  was arrested after a clash ensued between soldiers and members of his group in Kaduna state.

However, the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed said that Ibrahim El-Zakzaky is not in detention as has been widely reported.

Mohammed said the cleric is actually living with his family in a house provided by the Federal Government for his own benefit.
