Man in court for biting off policeman's skin

A man has been arraigned in a Lagos court for allegedly biting the flesh off a police officer when he was about to be arrested.

Adetunji who is facing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault, breach of peace and obstruction, was said to have tried to evade arrest and in the process, used his teeth as as weapon against one Corporal John Olusegun at Odunfa Street in Lagos Island.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Kehinde Omiseki, told the court that the accused and others at large, had conspired and committed the offences on July 9, 2016, at about 9 p.m.

Om‎iseki said that the accused bit Olusegun on his left arm, taking off a large portion of the skin in the toothy attack.

He added that the accused also conducted himself ‎in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by throwing stones, sticks and bottles at some police officers on lawful duty, and by blocking the road with sticks and tricycles.

When the charges were read to him, Adetunji pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, P. A. Adekomaya, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum, before adjourning the case till August 30, 2016, for mention.
