Lagos flood claims life of 12-yr-old girl

A 12-year-old girl has reportedly lost her life due to flood from the torrential rainfall in Lagos on Wednesday, June 10.

 

The torrential rainfall witnessed in the city of Lagos on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, did not just cause havoc to residents but also resulted in sorrow for a family residing in the Orilowo Ejigbo area of Ejibo Local Council Development Area, as the flood it brought with swept away a 12-year-old girl identified as Kehinde Popoola.

According to reports, the little girl lost her life in a canal in the area due to the flood when she fell into it and could not be rescued.

The victim was said to be returning from where she went to buy food for her family when she was swept away in the flooded canal.

The Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, who confirmed the incident, said that efforts by his men to rescue the girl proved abortive.

He said:

“When the incident happened, a man who saw the girl tried to rescue her but he almost lost his life as well because he hit head on the concrete.”

May her soul rest in peace.
