2-year old girl stabs herself in the head with scissors

Doctors have removed a pair of scissors from the head of a toddler after she accidentally stabbed herself in the temple while playing at home.

2-year old girl stabs herself in head with scissors

The two-year-old girl, nicknamed Honghong, from the city of Suqian in east China's Jiangsu Province was left on her own while her parents were busy preparing lunch, Daily Mirror reports.

The curious toddler managed to find a pair of 15-centimetre-long scissors and when her mother called her for lunch, she tripped and fell, jamming them into her right temple when she stumbled to the floor.

Honghong's terrified cries were heard by her parents, who when they saw what had happened immediately rushed her to a local hospital.

Initial scans showed four centimetres of the scissors blades were buried in Honghong's head.

She was later referred to the Nanjing Children's Hospital in provincial capital Nanjing for further treatment.

Attending physician Qian Jing said that the blades had penetrated her skull and caused some intracranial bleeding.

Doctor Qian said: "Although the scissors became lodged in the child's head, she did not suffer much blood loss. We are now most worried about the possibility of an infection."

But fortunately for the girl, the scissors missed the main artery and so it was successfully removed from her head following a short procedure.

Honghong is now in recovery.
