James Bond actor dies at 89 after short battle with cancer

Roger George Moore, who was popular for his role as the British Secret agent James Bond, has passed away.

Moore passed away in Switzerland on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the age of 89, after a brief battle with cancer.

His family took to Twitter to confirm the demise of the actor, who played Bond in seven films between 1973 and 1985.

In a statement from his family, they said, “It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer."

Moore's first Bond movie was the successful "Live and Let Die" in 1973.  He starred in six other films as the British spy, making him the longest running actor to interpret the role.

The late actor was also popular for his role as Simon Templar in "The Saint" between 1962 and 1985.

His other popular movies include "The Persuaders," "Boat Trip," "The Quest," "The Naked Face" among others.

There will be a private funeral for Moore in Monaco.

The late actor is survived by his wife, Kristina Tholstrup, and three children.
