Lecturer in alleged sex scandal was LASU's best Maths student in 1987

Dr Odubunmi is reported to be a no-nonsense lecturer, who is also popular for his diligence in the Department of Economics in the University.

The lecturer who is a graduate of the institution is also said to be one of the best students the university produced in 1987.

As stated in the lecturer's academic bio-data, Odubunmi was honoured by Lagos State University as the Best Student in Mathematics for Economics in 1987.

In LASU, Odubunmi is believed to be one of the highly respected lecturers in the Economic Department until when he was caught in the web of a sex scandal.

The lecturer had reportedly invited a female student to his office on a Saturday to come and rewrite a paper she failed, even though the girl had reportedly turned down sexual advances from him several times.

In order to have an evidence to support her sexual harassment claims, the student reported her case to a non-governmental organization which later collaborate with the school management and the security officials to trap Odubunmi.

The lecturer was therefore arrested by the university security officials.

However, a graduate of the Department who doesn't want his name to be mentioned said he is not surprised that the lecturer is involved in a sex scandal.

He said students both undergraduates and graduates of the Department of Economics in Lagos State University are aware that Odubunmi is a randy lecturer

''Some of the students who graduated from the department are aware of this. Some of the lecturers who are his colleagues are also aware of it as well. So it is not a news to them. Also as students, it is not a news to us that he sexually harassed female students. What is news to us is that he was caught and arrested'' he said.

Talking about his diligence, the anonymous graduate said Odubunmi, who is the immediate past HOD of his department only put himself in a position that makes him appear diligent because he teaches three compulsory courses. He added that that position gives him access to so many students.

He said ''He teaches three courses in the dept and these courses are courses that will make him have access to a lot of students because they are all compulsory, even for Economic education students. So he has placed himself in that position that makes people see him as diligent''.

Meanwhile, the Head of the university’s Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ademola Adekoya has said that the incidence happened two weeks ago and the investigative committee has submitted its report on the matter.

He added that “the management has received the report of the disciplinary panel and it is currently before the university’s Joint Governing Council and Senate Committee for final determination''.
