The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, commissioned the new institution on Tuesday, November 8, as part of his official two-day visit to the state, Punch reports.

According to the reports, President Buhari also took a tour of the facilities, including the Muhammadu Buhari Faculty of Science.
The president was accompanied by Governor Adams Oshiomhole and a delegation, including the Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode; the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and the governor-elect, Godwin Obaseki.
Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor of the University of Benin had earlier been appointed as pioneer Vice-Chancellorof the institution.
The newly established Edo University resumed with 500 students in April this year.
