After being released by , Anichebe this summer joined his former boss, Moyes at Sunderland.
The 28-year-old has not started a game for more than eight months and has made only one substitute appearance.
Despite his slow start to life in Sunderland, Moyes is confident that the striker will come good at the club.
“We have brought him in, given him a chance to prove himself and I think he will,” Moyes told Sunderland Echo.
The former Super Eagles striker has struggled with injury problems for a long time, a situation Moyes is familiar with from their time together at Everton.
“In the game against Palace, he jumped and landed and felt his groin a little bit,” Moyes also said.
“But this was always the risk with Victor. He had injury problems at West Brom and didn’t play all of the games.”
Sunderland travel to take on Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday, October 15 in search of their first win this season.
