The 22-year-old centre-back has settled in comfortably into the Ajax side, helping the Alfred Schreuder-led team keep two consecutive clean sheets in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Bassey was in the centre of defence for Ajax's last two league games, a 1-0 and 2-0 victory over Sparta Rotterdam and FC Utrecht respectively.

As posited by Dutch journalist Freek Jansen, Ajax's resurgence in defence can be partly attributed to the qualities which Calvin Bassey has contributed to the Ajax backline.

Ajax Showtime reported Jansen's words thus: "I thought the defence was very good at Ajax. I thought it was very solid. A few weeks ago Ajax conceded the goals in the matches against Fortuna and PSV.

"It was trying to figure out how the defense was going to take shape. You don't just become a champion by scoring a lot of goals, but especially by the clean sheets. Ajax made a very solid, mature impression in the back."

Calvin Bassey is Unbeatable - Jansen

Jansen stated that Bassey's strength and physical presence make the Nigerian international 'almost unbeatable' when he plays for the Dutch champions.

"Bassey makes a very reliable impression. He is almost unbeatable defensively. He is so physically strong and so big," Jansen said in awe of the former Rangers player.

"I also think he has solid eyes on the ball. Here and there you can see that he still has to get used to the position game. Apart from that, it is very nice for Ajax to see that Bassey is adapting quickly."

Calvin Bassey has played in the centre-back position for Ajax in his two Dutch Eredivisie appearances, partnering Jurrien Timber in Schreuder's set-up.

The Dutch side are yet to concede in the league when Bassey has played for them this season, tallying up four wins out of four matches thus far.
